There is a delicate balance between being and doing.
Another way to look at this is the relationship between mindfulness and getting things done.
I strongly believe we must first understand what it means and feels like to actually “BE” before we have any chance of bringing more “being” into our “doing.”
Taking time to intentionally do nothing–to sit by ourselves, to stare at a tree, to walk on the beach—and to not distract ourselves from ourselves, slowly gets us familiar with the preciousness and the nourishment of just being. That grounded space of mind that knows what is here, but is not swept away by it. This is a practice, and there’s no better way I know to accomplish this then meditation.
In time, we start to bring that quality of being into our moments of doing. It happens organically. You can’t force “being.” That’s just another form of doing.
